Children's Water Institute

The Works Committee recommends that the City's regular allotment of free transit shelter spaces be provided for a month (preferably for the mid-May to Mid-June period this year) for a Works lawn watering and water quality communication campaign.

The Works Committee reports, for the information of Council, having referred the communication (December 17, 1999) from Councillor Bill Saundercook, York Humber, Chair, Works Committee, to the Commissioner of Works and Emergency Services to request whether Works and Emergency Services communications staff can assist with displays for the event, in addition to what is already in place for children, and if possible, to coordinate this event with others in Environment Week.

The Works Committee submit the following communication (December 17, 1999) from Councillor Bill Saundercook, Chair, Works Committee:

My office has been recently approached by the Children's Water Institute, a non-profit organization set up to educate our kids about all things related to water pollution and water conservation.

They have indicated that the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) may be interested in hosting an event this coming year for Earth Day at Black Creek Pioneer Village. This is a great event, and should this all work out, I will encourage all of you to attend.

As such, I wanted to let you know that this is happening, and that our Committee should formally request our Works staff to see what assistance could be offered by the City. We have an excellent communications unit in our department, and I am sure they could work this into their plans for next year. We have numerous displays and one-day shows that we could put on for our kids.
