                           Minutes of the Scarborough Community Council
                                          Meeting No. 1

                                                                         Tuesday, January 6, 1998.


               The Scarborough Community Council met on Tuesday, January 6, 1998, in the Council
               Chamber, Metro Hall, 55 John Street, Toronto, to elect the Chair of the Community
               Council for a term of 18 months or until his/her successor is elected or
               appointed.

               The meeting commenced at 4:07 p.m.

               Members Present:

                       Mayor M. Lastman, Chair
                       Councillor G. Altobello
                       Councillor B. Ashton
                       Councillor B. Balkissoon
                       Councillor L. Berardinetti
                       Councillor R. Cho
                       Councillor B. Duguid
                       Councillor F. Faubert
                       Councillor N. Kelly
                       Councillor D. Mahood
                       Councillor R. Moeser
                       Councillor S. Shaw
                       Councillor M. Tzekas



1.             Election of Chair of Scarborough Community Council.

               The Mayor called for nominations for the office of Chair of the Scarborough
               Community Council for a term of 18 months or until his/her successor is elected or
               appointed.

                       Councillor Shaw moved that Councillor Berardinetti be nominated as Chair of
                       the Scarborough Community Council.

                       Councillor Duguid moved that Councillor Faubert be nominated as Chair of
                       the Scarborough Community Council.


                       The Mayor suggested that the Scarborough Community Council proceed with the
                       appointment of its Chair by written ballot.

               The City Clerk read aloud the results of the election by ballot, the voting being
               as follows:

               For Councillor Berardinetti:

               Mayor:  Lastman

               Councillors:   Altobello, Ashton, Balkissoon, Berardinetti, Kelly, Mahood, Moeser,
                              Shaw, Tzekas  -10
               For Councillor Faubert:
               Councillors:   Cho, Duguid, Faubert  -3

                       Councillor Berardinetti, having received the majority of votes, was elected
                       as Chair of the Scarborough Community Council for a term of 18 months or
                       until his successor is elected or appointed.



               The Scarborough Community Council adjourned its meeting at 4:13 p.m.
