Members of the Board of Management of the Toronto Zoo and Staff:  Please keep this agenda and the accompanying material until the Board meeting dealing with these matters has ended.  The City Clerk’s Office will not provide additional copies.

 

Closed Meeting Requirements:  If the Board of Management of the Toronto Zoo wants to meet in closed session (privately), a member of the Board must make a motion to do so and give the reason why the Board has to meet privately.(City of Toronto Act, 2006)

It is recommended that approval be granted to the Rouge Valley Foundation to erect a

wind turbine on the leased property of the Board.

Summary

This report requests approval by the Board of Management for the Rouge Valley Foundation to

erect a wind turbine beside their Conservation Centre located on the Zoo grounds.

This report will brief the Board on the Toronto Zoo’s Occupational Health and Safety Programs.

 

Several safety initiatives were carried out in 2009. In 2010, we will continue our prevention

efforts by maintaining our present training programs, revising current policies, and introducing

new safety programs to assist in meeting legislative changes and ensure continued due diligence.

Committee Structure and Composition

Recommendations

It is recommended that:

 

1.         The Board of Management reconsider its committee structure and composition and that Section 26(2)(a) of the Procedural By-law be waived.

 

2.         The Communications and Marketing Committee be dissolved.

 

3.         The Animal Care, Research and Acquisition Committee be changed to the Animal Acquisition Committee effective February 1, 2010, and the Animal Acquisition Committee Terms of Reference in Attachment 2 be approved.

 

4.         The composition of the Management Committee, Animal Acquisition Committee, Nominating Panel, and Fundraising and Sponsorship Committee as listed in Attachment 1 be approved.

 

5.         The Board appoint at least one additional member to the Animal Acquisition Committee.

Summary

With the addition of the Fundraising and Sponsorship Committee in 2009, the Committee workload has increased for both Board members and staff.  Staff are recommending two changes to the Board Committee structure which will make more efficient use of Board member and staff time.

Financial Impact

There is no financial impact from the above recommendations.
