Water Discharge Requirements

  • Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 743, Section 743-13 (outstanding amendments - Bylaw 375-2012) prohibits water from being discharged from a property or building onto a street when City staff determine it creates a hazard or nuisance.
  • This applies to water entering City streets from private properties.

Property Owner Responsibilities

  • Property owners are required to correct the issue within 24 hours after City staff identify the water discharge as a hazard or nuisance.

Report a Water Discharge Concern

  • Contact 311 to submit a service request regarding:
    • Sump pump discharge into City streets
    • Property grading issues that cause water runoff
    • Downspouts that discharge water onto City streets or road allowances
