Urban Forestry is responsible for maintaining trees on City streets and in City Parks, including trees planted within paved surfaces and supported by infrastructure such as tree pits and raised tree planters.
City staff periodically remove weeds and litter from the soil surface around City-owned trees on paved surfaces, as part of general tree care operations such as mulching and watering.
To report damage tree pits, raised tree planters or any other infrastructure supporting City-owned street trees submit a service request below, or call 311. For issues regarding weed removal or graffiti please call 311 to be connected to Urban Forestry.
Some street tree infrastructure may be owned or maintained by private property owners or BIA’s. Urban Forestry will investigate and plan work or forward the request accordingly.
For tree pits and raised tree planters in City parks, please report the issue to the park supervisor. Contact 311 to be connected with the park supervisor.
Response times are determined by call volume and priority levels, and can be significantly impacted by storm events.
As per Chapter 743 of the Municipal Code, commonly referred to as the Streets and Sidewalks By-law, private property owners hold the primary responsibility for removing weeds and litter from City boulevards adjacent to their properties. Although City staff will respond to requests for removal of weeds and litter from tree pits and planters on City boulevards, private property owners are encouraged to take part in beautifying City streets by adhering to the Streets and Sidewalks By-law.
