The Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) offers convenient on-street parking options throughout Toronto. Currently, there are approximately 21,500 metered parking spaces located in core commercial areas of the city, the city's retail strips, as well as in residential neighbourhoods.
To pay for on-street parking, use the Green P Parking App or any of the Pay-and-Display machines, which accept coins and credit cards.
Green P Mobile Pay
Is a convenient way to pay for on-street parking. To get started, download the Green P Parking App to your phone and add a payment method to your account. Next, simply enter the location ID indicated on the parking signs and Pay and Display machines, choose your parking duration and confirm payment details to start your parking session.
Use Pay-and-Display Machines
Pay-and-Display machines enforce multiple parking spaces on a block. These spaces are indicated by signs at either end. You can pay by coin or with a credit care at any machine.
Single Space Meters
Single space meters each control one parking space and accept payment by coin in denominations of 05¢ / .10¢ / .25¢ / $1.00 / $2.00. Note: Single space meters only accepts coins).
Pay-by-Plate
Toronto Parking Authority (Green P) is introduced a modernized on-street technology upgrade across the city with new Pay-by Plate parking meters, 254 new on-street multi-space Pay-by-Plate parking meters have been installed as of the end of 2023.
These parking meters require entering the vehicle licence plate number to validate parking sessions and this means no more walking back to the vehicle to display a ticket. The licence plate number is the ticket,
Parking Rates
Parking rates can be found on pay-and-display machines, single meter machines and in Green P Parking App. The majority of parking rates are in $1.50, $2.75, $4.00, $5.25, or $6.50 increments.
Maximum Times
Most on-street parking spaces allow a maximum of 3 hours of parking.
There are also parking durations in 30-minute and 1-hour increments where the maximum parking time can range from 15 minutes to 24 hours.
Location-specific parking hours of operation and rates can be found in the Green P Parking App and on the rate card at each pay station.
Vehicles parked at paid parking spaces which do not adhere to the regulatory restrictions will be subject to enforcement by the Toronto Police Services Parking Enforcement Unit. Enforcement is 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Graffiti
The City of Toronto is not responsible for graffiti removal on parking meters or within Green P parking lots as these assets are managed by Toronto Parking Authority. The City cannot investigate, manage or process requests related to their upkeep.
To report graffiti on a Toronto parking machine or meter, phone or email the Toronto Parking Authority Customer Service Office.
Broken parking meters or equipment malfunction
Call the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) Customer Service line on the contact list below. If reporting a broken meter, please have the meter or machine number available (see rate card inside meter, or the metal plate attached to the bottom of machine). The Parking Authority will register your call and submit a maintenance request for the meter.
It is the vehicle owner's responsibility to ensure that the parking meter controlling the space where they are parked is operational. Should the meter not be operational, the onus is on the driver to park at a working parking meter.
With regard to non-operational pay and display dispensers, it is also incumbent on drivers to obtain a pay and display ticket from a dispenser further along or across the street from where they are parked.
Removal of parking meters for a film shoot
There may be situations when a scene calls for a pay and display or parking meter to be temporarily removed, decorated or covered. The fee for temporary removal and replacement is $1,500.00 + GST and is payable by cash or certified cheque to The Toronto Parking Authority. Payment may be made at the Toronto Film and Television Office for forwarding to the Toronto Parking Authority. Please also state this request on your location filming permit application.
To obtain approval and make the necessary arrangements, the location manager must contact the On Street Co-ordinator from TPA.
