Laneways are not plouged by the City, but entrances to laneways are opened. The ploughing of laneways is not feasible due to the design of most lanes (narrow, sharp turns, drainage, lack of space to place the snow, snow windrows would block access to garages and yards).
Laneways are treated with an application of salt to promote melting. This is done within 1 to 2 days from the end of a major snowfall.
NOTE: There is a laneway frontage snow removal program for a limited number of homes with primary access via the laneway. This is activated when local ploughing has been completed and will be completed within 24 hours after adjacent sidewalks are completed.
