The subway extension is 8.6 km long:
6.2 km from Downsview Station to Steeles West Station (in Toronto)
2.4 km from Steeles West Station to Vaughan Corporate Centre Station (in York Region )

The subway extension will open in approximately 3 years:

  • Design = 2 to 3 years
  • Construction, Testing and Commissioning = 3 to 4 years
  • Open for Service - fall 2016

FinancingThe Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension is jointly funded by the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto, and The Regional Municipality of York.

Environmental Approvals
All environmental assessment approvals have been secured for design and construction. TYSSE continues to meet all environmental compliance commitments from the approved environmental assessment through construction and commissioning.

There will be six (6) stations:

  1. Finch West (at Keele Street and Finch Avenue intersection)
  2. York University (in the Common of York University)
  3. Pioneer Village (at North West Gate and Steeles Avenue, east of Jane Street)
  4. Highway 407 (at Highway 407 and Jane Street)
  5. Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (at Highway 7 and Jane Street)
  6. Downsview Park (in Parc Downsview Park lands, adjacent to Barrie GO Line)

CostThe final estimated project cost is $2.6 billion.

The City of Toronto has approved a noise by-law exemption which allows the contractor to perform overnight and weekend work when required to minimize traffic and neighbourhood disruptions.
