Giorgio Mammoliti was elected to six terms on Toronto City Council from 1998 to 2018, first representing North York Humber from 1998 to 2000, and then York West from 2000 to 2018.

During his time on Toronto City Council, he chaired the Affordable Housing Committee, the Community Development and Recreation Committee, the Parks and Environment Committee, and was also a member of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. He chaired the Toronto Zoo board, and was on the board of the Canadian National Exhibition Association. He also served on the board of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

Prior to amalgamation, he served as a North York City Councillor from 1995 to 1998 representing Ward 1. Before entering municipal elected office, he was elected as a Member of Provincial Parliament for Yorkview (North York) from 1990 to 1995.

Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall and the Civic Centres were flown at half-mast in his memory from February 25 until March 3, in memory of the late Giorgio Mammoliti (former City of Toronto, North York Councillor and MPP), who passed away on February 25.
