  • Option 3 was selected as the preferred playground design
  • Bright and vibrant colours for the playground equipment
  • Rubber safety surfacing
  • An accessible cup spinner has been added
  • New sandbox
  • Armourstone seating wall
  • Additional seating and benches around the play area
  • Accessible swing

A rendering of the final playground deign for Bob Lopston Park includes a junior play structure with two slides, monkey bars, and climbing feature, a senior play structure with two slides, monkey bars, rope climber, and a climbing feature. Other features include a seated spinner, a seated seesaw, sensory play panels, music panels, swing set complete with 5 swing seats (2 swings for toddlers/young children ages 2 to 5, 2 swings for children ages 5 to 12 and 1 inclusive swing).

Phase 1 Online Survey

An online survey was available from August 26 to September 21, 2020. In total, 245 responses were received, which included feedback from 727 community members.

The survey presented and collected feedback on the following playground redesign options.

Playground Redesign Options

There are three playground redesign options to choose from.

All three design options have the same level of accessibility, the same number of play features, and generally the same cost.

All design options include:

  • Junior (ages three to five) and senior (ages five to 12) play structures, swings, and various play accessories
  • Engineered wood fibre safety surfacing instead of sand, as this improves accessibility for all playground users
  • An accessible ramp
  • A concrete border around the play area
  • Two benches facing the play area
  • A wall facing the play area that also serves as seating

Equipment colours have been shown for reference only.
Later in the survey, you will be able to comment on your colour preferences.
