Project Complete
Construction is complete and the new playground opens to the public. The playground design includes a pathway connecting the playground to the parking lot. Additional features include:
- A junior play structure for ages eighteen months to five years with:
- one slide
- one climbing option
- two play panels
- A senior play structure for ages five and up with:
- one alpine slide and one double slide
- five climbing options that also work balance
- four play panels
- A gathering/picnic area with patio tables, chairs and umbrellas for shade
- Accessible benches
- New trees

Final Playground Design
Playground Layout Option 2 (circular layout) and Playground Equipment Option A will be installed in Cummer Park. This was the community’s preferred layout and design in the online survey conducted in January 2021.

Online Survey
An online survey was available in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese from December 24, 2020, until January 24, 2021. Respondents were able to share their preferences for the new playground layout and design. The playground layouts and equipment proposed in the survey follow.

Proposed Playground Layout Options
The following images showcase the two proposed layout options for the Cummer Park Playground. There is one rectangular layout and one circular layout. Both options are:
- Designed in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Similar in size and include woodchip safety surfacing
Both options include:
- A concrete curb surrounding the playground to contain the woodchip surfacing
- Upgrades to the drainage system to keep the playground dry
- An accessible concrete ramp to the playground with an armourstone seatwall (natural stone that serves as seating as well as a path edge)
- Asphalt pathway connecting the playground area to the parking lot
- Gathering/seating area with concrete pavement
- Benches
- New tree plantings

Playground Layout Option 1 – Rectangular Layout
Option 1 has a rectangular layout. The gathering/seating area includes a shade shelter and picnic tables.

Layout Option 1 includes:
- A rectangular layout design
- A playground area with woodchip safety surfacing, concrete curbs, a concrete accessible ramp with armourstone seatwalls, and new playground equipment
- An accessible asphalt pathway connection to the playground and gathering/ seating areas from the parking lot
- A gathering/ seating area with a shade shelter and three accessible picnic tables
- Benches on concrete pads The removal of one existing tree and planting of six new trees
Playground Equipment for Layout Option 1 – Rectangular Layout
For Layout Option 1 – Rectangular Layout, there are two playground equipment options. Both playground equipment options include:
- Accessible play structures so that kids of all abilities can play.
- Transfer platforms are included in each design. These assist individuals with mobility devices on to the playground structure and components. This feature is compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Swings including:
- two belt seats
- one toddler swing seat
- one accessible swing seat
- one group basket style swing seat
- one senior play structure
- one junior play structure
- one freestanding spinner

Layout Option 1 – Playground Equipment Option A includes:
- one swing set with:
- two belt seats
- one toddler swing seat
- one accessible swing seat
- one separate group basket style swing set
- one senior play structure with:
- two double slides

- one freestanding stand-up spinner

Layout Option 1 – Playground Equipment Option B includes:
- one swing set with:
- two belt seats
- one toddler swing seat
- one accessible swing seat
- one group basket style swing seat
- one senior play structure with:
- one curved slide
- three climbing options
- one play panel
- one somersault bar
- one junior play structure with:
- one single and one double slide
- two climbing options
- one hammock for balance
- one freestanding sit-down spinner bowl
- one freestanding two-person spring toy
- one freestanding triple somersault bars
Playground Layout Option 2 – Circular Layout
Option 2 has a circular layout. The gathering/seating area includes patio set tables with canopies for shade.

Layout Option 2 includes:
- A curvilinear form to the layout design
- A playground area with woodchip safety surfacing, concrete curbs, a concrete accessible ramp with armourstone seatwalls and new playground equipment
- An accessible asphalt pathway connection to the playground and gathering/ seating areas from the parking lot
- A gathering/ seating area with patio set tables with canopies for shade
- Benches on concrete padsThe removal of three existing tree and planting of 12 new trees
