Construction for the new playground will start June 13, 2022 and is expected to be complete by the end of September 2022 (weather permitting).

The City is planning improvements to the playground in Eastview Park. These improvements are part of an ongoing city-wide program to ensure our playgrounds provide safe and accessible fun for many years to come!

Project Timeline

  • Late Summer 2021: Community engagement (online survey)
  • Winter: Detailed design and hire a construction team
  • Spring 2022: Construction starts
  • Summer 2022: Playground reopens

Eastview Park Playground is located at 33 Coronation Dr., east of Eastview Public School in Scarborough.

The playground currently includes:

  • Two swing sets with:
    • Four swings for ages two to five
    • Four swings for ages five and up
  • One play structure with:
    • One small slide
  • One play structure with:
    • Two slides
    • A small bridge
    • A small climbing rung and platforms
  • Sand under all play areas
  • One bench

The playground will be redesigned using feedback from the community. The redesigned playground is proposed to include:

  • New accessible play equipment and an accessible pathway to the playground. This means that people of all abilities will be able to play at this playground
  • Woodchip playground surfacing (engineered wood fiber)
  • Additional seating and chaise lounge chairs
  • A small armourstone seating wall

Improvements will only be made in the general playground area. This will not include any new water or lighting features, or improvements to other areas of the park.

Final Playground Design

Playground Design A will be installed in Eastview Park. This was the preferred design in the online survey shared with the community in October. An accessible group disc swing, four-person teeter totter and an accessible piano panel and spiral puzzle have been added to the design.

Online Survey

Feedback on multiple playground design options was collected in an online survey from September 17 to October 3, 2021. The survey received a total of 216 responses.
