Final Concept Plan

The concept design for the park improvements is finalized. Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2021.

The west part of the park is proposed to have a new splash pad. The new splash pad will include park bench seating and is protected by a low fence. The north east of the project site is proposed to have a new natural safety surface playground area with swings, and a net climber. The playground is contained by natural stone border that is retaining the slope to the north. The south edge of the playground is bordered by natural stone and drops down to a lawn area that will be re-graded to resolve some of the drainage concerns identified and still support park programs in that space. A new accessible park path will be included to provide access to the playground and splash pad areas from East Liberty Street.

December 2019

Online Survey

Feedback on the two proposed concept designs for the park improvements was collected in an online survey from December 13 to December 31, 2019. The survey received a total of 113 responses.

  • 33% of respondents preferred concept design 1 (large play structure, sand and water play)
  • 40% of respondents preferred concept design 2a (swings and large play structure)
  • 27% of respondents preferred concept design 2b (variety of play options)

September to December 2019

A design team led by landscape architectural consulting firm Cosburn Nauboris was hired and is developing concept design options for the park.

Based on community consultation, a need has been identified for improvements to be made at Liberty Village Park, primarily to enhance the play amenities that currently exist at the park.

The scope of improvements to the park include:

  • Playground expansion
  • Splash Pad
  • Seating
  • Pathways
  • Landscaping

Feedback from the December 2019 open house was incorporated into the development of the final detailed design.
