The City of Toronto is inviting residents to learn about and provide feedback on proposed road safety improvements and a new bikeway on Sloane Avenue, from Eglinton Avenue East to Victoria Park Avenue.

These improvements are intended to enhance safety for all road users, including pedestrians, people who cycle, take transit or drive. The bikeway would provide a new north-south cycling route alternative to Victoria Park Avenue and increase accessibility and safety through Sloane Avenue to the bikeway on Eglinton Avenue and nearby trails. There are no proposed changes to the number of motor vehicle travel lanes.

The project extends along Sloane Avenue between Eglinton Avenue East and Victoria Park.

Project area is marked in red on Sloane Avenue, from Eglinton Avenue East to Victoria Park. Existing Cycling infrastructure is marked in yellow on Eglinton Avenue East, East Don Trail, Gatineau Hydro Corridor, and near Bermondsey Road.

The proposed safety improvements and bikeway would be completed as part of planned road resurfacing along Sloane Avenue scheduled to take place in 2026, and support the City’s commitment to the Vision Zero Road Safety Plan. The Plan’s goals are to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by making roads safer for everyone, with a focus on those most vulnerable, including seniors, school children, pedestrians and people cycling. The planned road resurfacing presents the most cost-effective opportunity to make these improvements.

In this segment, the City is proposing:

  • On-street buffered bike lanes on both sides of the street
  • Physical separation for the bikeway would be constructed only at bus stops
  • Existing vehicle lane widths narrowed to meet City guidelines, encouraging lower speeds
  • Removal of unsigned parking on both sides of the street
  • Most bus stops to be upgraded to accessible integrated bike/bus platforms
  • Relocation of select TTC bus stops
  • Other safety improvements such as curb radii reductions, curb extensions, and raised crosswalks where feasible
  • Road resurfacing from Eglinton Avenue East to Sweeney Drive

The proposed changes in front of Sloane Avenue Public School account for higher parking, pedestrian, and vehicle traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times, and encourage compliance with existing parking restrictions.

In this segment, the City is proposing:

  • Raised in-boulevard cycle track on west side of the street and on-street buffered bike lane on east side of the street
  • No physical separation constructed on east side of street
  • No change to vehicle lane width on west side
  • No change to parking restrictions on west side of the street. East side will become ‘No Stopping Anytime’
  • Removal of six newly planted trees during installation, that will be replaced with new plantings

For this intersection, the City is proposing:

  • Raised in-boulevard cycle tracks from Eglinton Avenue East to Eccleston Drive, to provide connections with the bikeway on Eglinton Avenue East
  • Protected intersection features including truck aprons, corner islands, and left-turn boxes to improve safety for pedestrians and people cycling
  • Dedicated one-way crossing for people cycling and bike signals in all four directions.
  • Relocation of the northbound TTC bus stop further north by 19 meters to provide a wider vehicle lane near the bus stop

The following stop modifications were identified to meet TTC’s surface stop spacing guidelines:

  • Elvaston Drive: relocation of northbound stop to southside of street
  • Northbound and southbound stops at Anewen Drive and Kenewen Court will be maintained
  • All other stop locations will also be maintained.

TTC bus stops on Sloane Avenue highlighted. Elvaston Drive will move to south side of the street.

Public opinion, along with technical and policy considerations, will be used to inform staff recommendations and decisions made by City Council.

On January 12, 2026, the project team presented the revised design and answered questions at a public meeting hosted by Councillor Burnside. View the information panels below.

A Public Drop-In Event was held on October 20, that included opportunity to speak with project staff and view display boards. View the public consultation report and information panels below.

The City considers potential changes to the proposed design through consideration of public feedback alongside technical considerations, policies, guidelines and site observations.

Following consultation, the following changes were made to the proposed design:

  • Modified the bikeway design to include on-street buffered bike lanes on Sloane Avenue with no physical separation, except near bus stops
  • Limited raised cycle track locations to intersection of Eglinton Avenue East, in front of Sloane Public School, and through raised bus stops
  • Maintained northbound and southbound bus stops at Anewen Drive and Kenewen Court

For more details, view the information panels in the Public Consultation tab.

City staff will review public feedback and consider changes to the proposed design where feasible before reporting to the Infrastructure and Environment Committee. Subject to approval, installation would be planned for Summer 2026 – 2027.
