The Toronto Community Crisis Service (TCCS) is free, confidential and available citywide.
When you call 211 for support with a mental health crisis, TCCS sends crisis workers trained in mental health and crisis response to your location. They will talk with you to understand what supports you need. The TCCS works with you to find ways to respond to your mental health needs.
TCCS supports people 16 years of age and older. If you are under 16, call 211 (TTY 1-888-340-1001) to be connected to youth supports.
The TCCS story map illustrates some experiences from people who have used the service.
If you live outside of the City of Toronto and need mental health supports, call 211, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Yes. 911 call takers know about TCCS and will ask callers a few questions to determine what the best response for the situation is (ex. Ambulance, Police, Fire or TCCS).
No. All TCCS staff are civilians.
No. All TCCS workers will have a lanyard and an identification card showing that they work for the TCCS. Some crisis workers may wear t-shirts or other clothing with the TCCS logo, but it is not mandatory.
The TCCS is completely funded by the City of Toronto.
The primary focus of the TCCS is to respond to mental health crises. We recognize some callers experiencing mental health challenges may also be experiencing shelter and housing challenges. The TCCS will work to support their immediate needs. For street outreach and housing related supports, please contact Streets to Homes.
Please visit the community partners’ page for current opportunities.
Yes. The TCCS is a voluntary and consent-based service meaning we will ask the person who you think needs support if they want to work with us. If they say yes, we will support them to address their mental health needs. If they say no, we will respect their choice and let them know we are always available if they need support.
