Take part in one of Toronto’s time-honoured traditions!

Drop-in Shinny

Shinny is an informal game of hockey played on ice. There is usually minimal equipment needed to play and no goaltender.

City of Toronto drop-in games are supervised unless otherwise stated. You don’t need full equipment but you will need to bring:

  • a CSA approved hockey helmet, mandatory for all participants
    • if you’re under 19 years old, a full face guard is required
  • hockey gloves and neck guard is highly recommended for all participants
  • your own skates, sticks and pucks

Other shinny rules:

  • No goalies in shinny
  • No body contact
  • Puck is not to be raised off the ice
  • No slap shots
  • Only one puck is allowed on the ice during a game

Pick Up Hockey – Adults 19+ Only

City of Toronto drop-in/pick-up hockey games are not supervised unless otherwise stated. Goalies are allowed to join in, too.

You will need to bring:

  • A CSA approved hockey helmet, which is mandatory for everyone
  • full equipment to wear while playing
  • your own skates, sticks and pucks

Body contact isn’t allowed but the puck is allowed to be raised off the ice.
