The Noise Bylaw
The
noise bylaw provides standards for noise in Toronto. This includes decibel limits and time restrictions for some types of noise. Also, along with these restrictions there are noise exemptions that allow work outside of the permitted hours.
Exempt from the Noise Bylaw
The following are exempt from the noise bylaw:
- Noise from an event/activity with a noise exemption permit
- Construction noise during permitted hours
- Construction noise – government or safety measure exemption
- Power devices noise during permitted hours
- Vehicle repair noise during permitted hours
- Loading and unloading noise during permitted hours
- Delivery of goods to retail business establishments, hotels and motels, and good distribution centres
- Waste collection noise exemption.
As per Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 591-3.1 safety and government work allow bells or sirens required for the purposes of public safety including sirens when operated by Police Services, Fire and Paramedic Services, or bells or whistles operated by rail or transit services.
