The area street tree maintenance program is one where trees which are located on a City road allowance within an entire area (i.e. several streets or blocks) are maintained as needed. Area maintenance is a proactive service which focuses on: removal of deadwood and split or damaged limbs; removal of low branches that impede pedestrian and vehicular traffic; and pruning to provide moderate clearance from structures such as utility lines and house roofs.
Urban Forestry does have a plan to gradually expand this program with the aim of establishing a 7 year rotation for the maintenance of all City street trees.
