Transportation Services views an All-Way stop sign to be an ineffective speed control measure. Experience has shown that motorists will frequently accelerate to speeds higher than they would have traveled otherwise after passing all-way stop signs in order to make up lost time.

The Transportation Division reviews requests for all-way stop sign controls from the public or Members of Council or will initiate a review on its own if traffic conditions warrant. This review is undertaken in accordance with the Policy governing the installation of all-way stop sign controls approved by City Council in 2002.

Staff are often requested to report on requests for all-way stop controls to the appropriate Community Council and the final decision as to whether an all-way stop sign control is installed rests with City Council.

Requests can be submitted online at Customer Experience – 311 – Toronto at Your Service – City of Toronto .

You can access the all-way stop policy at the City of Toronto website.
