Description of Service / Summary
Property owners are responsible for receiving and paying their property tax bills on time. Tax bills are issued annually, and advance notice is provided through print, online media, and the City’s webpages. Penalty and interest are applied to unpaid balances, and owners are encouraged to use the Property Tax Lookup or contact 311 if their bill is not received.
Did Not Receive Your Tax Bill?
- Penalties and interest cannot be waived due to non-receipt of a tax bill.
- Tax bills are issued at the same time each year, unless otherwise stated.
- Advance notice is provided through:
- Local print and online media
- City webpages
Tip: It is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure they receive their tax bill. If the bill is not received, use the Property Tax Lookup or contact 311.
Undeliverable Tax Bills
- If a tax bill is returned by Canada Post as “undeliverable”:
- Revenue Services staff will review the returned bill.
- They will attempt to locate a correct mailing address or update property ownership information.
- A duplicate tax bill will be issued whenever possible.
Penalty and Interest
- Applied at a rate of 1.25% per month on any unpaid property tax balance.
- This applies to all overdue balances, including those not received due to mail issues.
