Description of Service / Summary:
A pedestrian crossover (PXO) is a marked crossing where people press a button and the overhead lights start flashing immediately to stop traffic so it is safe to cross. If something at a PXO is damaged or not working, for example the flashing beacon, push button, pole, wires, cable, or control box, you can report it so the City can repair it.
PXO Damage or Maintenance Issues:
- Low/loose overhead cable, beacon not working, push button not working or missing, pole down or leaning, crosswalk equipment not working, damage from a collision, or a missing/damaged cover in the ground.
- Lights flashing constantly, damaged pole, loose/damaged junction box, overhead fixture out, cover missing on pole (wires exposed), push button stuck, or timer/flash timing not working correctly.
How to Report a PXO Damage Request:
To report PXO maintenance problem, please submit a service request online at: toronto.ca/311 by selecting the “Roads, Sidewalks, Bicycle & Traffic Safety” Service Request category or call 311.
PXO Safety vs. Equipment Problems:
- PXO Equipment problems: something is broken or not working (button, lights, pole, cables, control box). Report it to 311 for repair.
- PXO Safety/operational concerns: issues like frequent driver non compliance, near misses, or a crossing that feels unsafe even when equipment works. These concerns trigger a safety review by staff, which can include on site observations and collision history checks. You can still report these through 311; they will be routed for a safety review rather than equipment repair. More information can be found in Pedestrian crossover (PXO) - Safety & Operation investigation
