Logistics Technicians play a vital role in Toronto Paramedic Services by ensuring paramedics have clean, stocked and fully functional vehicles and equipment needed to respond to 911 calls.  This meaningful work directly supports public safety and contributes to saving lives and supporting people in their time of need.

Responsibilities:

Ambulances and other emergency response vehicles

  • Clean and sanitize vehicles (routine and deep cleaning). Remove garbage and medical waste.
  • Perform vehicle checks and minor vehicle maintenance (e.g., lights, wipers).
  • Identify and remove vehicles scheduled for preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain vehicle inventory (e.g., linen, oxygen tanks, medical supplies).

Equipment

  • Clean, sanitize and inspect medical equipment and response bags.
  • Maintain, repair, and test equipment per Ministry of Health and manufacturer standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on specialized paramedic tools (e.g., stretchers, monitors).
  • Provide real-time support to ambulance crews troubleshooting or replacing equipment when needed. 
  • Develop and implement, under direction from a supervisor, preventative maintenance programs for the Division’s emergency equipment.

Supplies and Administration

  • Receive, stock and distribute supplies, equipment and non-controlled medications.
  • Restock vehicles and response bags; manage inventory levels.
  • Perform shipping/receiving duties and inventory audits.
  • Input data for inventory, equipment and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control standards and Ministry of Health certification requirements.
  • Recommend process improvements, complete incident reports.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • Considerable experience in semi-skilled work, warehouse operations, and material handling.
  • Skilled in maintenance of ambulance equipment (e.g., defibrillators, oxygen regulators, suction units).
  • Proficient in using hand, pneumatic, and power tools.
  • Comfortable operating various motor vehicles for equipment evaluation and maintenance.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain City equipment operating permits.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Willingness to obtain certifications for equipment maintenance (e.g., stretchers, oxygen/suction systems).

Work Environment

  • Available for 24/7 rotating or fixed shifts with minimal supervision, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 23 kg and working in varied indoor/outdoor conditions.
  • Able to tolerate exposure to biohazards, noise, odors, and heights with proper personal protective equipment.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong problem-solving and general repair skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience in inventory control and assembly line work (asset).
  • Knowledge of EMS/paramedic medical products (asset).
  • Capable of training new staff and interpreting technical documents.

Automotive Mechanic 3s are essential members of the Toronto Paramedic Services Fleet Services team. The Fleet Services team is responsible for the full lifecycle of the service’s diverse vehicle fleet, from design and acquisition to maintenance and eventual decommissioning.  Working on a variety of vehicles (e.g., ambulances, SUVs, trucks) powered by innovative technologies (e.g., hybrid, electric), Automotive Mechanic 3s support the daily operations of the 911 system ensuring the safe response to calls and transport of patients to hospital.  

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mandatory inspections of City of Toronto vehicles.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools and equipment supplied by the City.
  • Perform calibrations and report deficiencies with recommendations.
  • Work under the direction of a Lead hand and or Supervisor.
  • Operate vehicles for road testing and garage movement.
  • Familiar with and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations that apply to this work.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop and tools.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must possess a current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualification – Automotive Service Technician (310S).
  • Considerable experience in all aspects of maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Extensive experience on gasoline and electric powered light- to medium-duty vehicles.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and must quality for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Work Environment:

  • Must be physically capable of performing related duties.
  • Must be able to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

As a key member of the Operational Support team, the Materials Management Clerk 1 plays an essential role in ensuring the Division has the equipment and supplies needed for staff to perform their duties effectively. Materials Management Clerk 1s support a wide range of materials and specialized equipment that are critical to the functioning of Toronto’s 911 system, helping maintain public safety and operational readiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide work direction and training to staff.
  • Control access to secured stores area.
  • Receive, inspect, label, and store incoming materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate pick-ups, deliveries and assist with loading/unloading.
  • Requisition supplies and maintain accurate records.
  • Resolve shipping issues and manage returns with suppliers.
  • Support inventory count and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone and radio.
  • Maintain cleanliness of stores, vehicles, and delivery area.
  • Report equipment issues and request repairs.
  • Operate stores-related equipment and travel between locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Considerable experience in storekeeping methods and practices.
  • Experience interpreting stock catalogues and verifying quality of merchandise using SAP.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to operate mechanized equipment such as forklifts and must meet the qualifications for the City of Toronto’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
  • Knowledge of computerized stock management and financial systems and computer equipment.
  • Physically capable of performing required duties.
  • Ability to deal with staff, the public and suppliers in a courteous manner and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.

    A vital link to the Division’s operations, Couriers ensure timely and secure delivery of mail, materials, and equipment to various locations across the city.  The role helps maintain the flow of resources that keep the city connected and responsive.

    Responsibilities:

    • Operate and drives city vehicles including cars, vans or pick-up trucks.
    • Pick-up, sort and deliver mail, parcels, supplies, linen (clean/soiled), oxygen cylinders and other materials across multiple locations within the city, daily.
    • Obtains receipt or signature for all deliveries made. Arranges routes according to delivery.
    • Uses computer for basic data entry and retrieval.
    • Communicate with staff and public on daily basis for pick-ups and deliveries
    • Wash, refuel and perform daily circle checks on vehicles; arranges maintenance as needed.
    • Record delivery details, fuel usage and mileage.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Some secondary school education is required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” licence and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
    • One year of safe driving experience.
    • Must have computer skills or agree to be trained and able to apply needed skills.
    • Thorough knowledge of Provincial and City Traffic Laws.
    • Familiar with locations of streets in City area.
    • Knowledge and ability to perform minor maintenance on vehicles.
    • Ability to maintain vehicles in operation in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
    • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
    • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
    • Familiarity with medical supplies is an asset.

    Work Environment:

    • Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
    • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, overtime as required.
