NEWSToronto City Council approves 2011 Budget![]() Toronto City Council has approved the 2011 Budget. The Special Council meeting began on February 23, 2011. Having debated and voted on all items before them, City Council adjourned the meeting on February 24, 2011. To review the motions and votes that Members of Toronto City Council made on the 2011 budget, select one of the budget related agenda items from the February 23 meeting: In December, Council approved a 2011 budget process and schedule designed to develop, review and adopt both operating and capital budgets by February 28, 2011. Mayor Ford officially launched the 2011 Budget process on January 10, 2011. Since the launch, there have been nine Budget Committee meetings. In addition to these meetings, four public consultation sessions on the 2011 Budget were held on January 19 and 20, 2011 at various civic centres in Toronto. Following the Budget Committee’s meeting about the 2011 Budget process on Friday, February 10 the 2011 Budget went before the Executive Committee on February 17 for final recommendations before going before City Council. The Budget Committee's mandate includes co-ordinating the preparation of the capital and operating budget estimates while the annual capital and operating budgets are being developed, making recommendations on the capital and operating budgets, and reviewing other matters that may have a significant impact on a future budget, upon request from the Executive Committee.
