The City of Toronto has renamed Rosebank Park in honour of the late Toronto City Councillor Cynthia Lai, who passed away on October 1, 2022.
The newly named Cynthia Lai Park, located at 1051 Progress Ave. in Scarborough, is 4.3 hectares in size and features open green space, horticultural displays and basketball courts. This park commemorates the late Councillor’s contributions to the city and was chosen as the preferred location with the support of Councillor Lai’s family.
Councillor Lai was elected to City Council in 2018, representing Scarborough North until her passing in 2022. She was a strong voice for Scarborough North’s diverse population and championed initiatives that promoted equity, diversity and inclusion across the city. An environmental advocate, Councillor Lai supported clean-up and maintenance efforts at local parks including Rosebank Park making it a fitting location to honour her legacy.
