Toronto Fire Services (TFS) Fire Chief Matthew Pegg and other City of Toronto officials will welcome the newest groups of firefighters and call-takers/dispatchers to the City at two ceremonies tomorrow.
Date: Friday, June 17
Time: 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Location: Toronto Fire and Paramedic Services Training Centre, 895 Eastern Ave.
A graduation ceremony recognizes the successful completion of comprehensive training programs, and will see recruits join the TFS Operations and Communications divisions.
Ninety-two Operations firefighter recruits will graduate from their 20-week recruit training program with professional qualifications as Operations firefighters from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), as well as in fire prevention and public education. This enables TFS to conduct an increased number of Ontario Fire Code Inspections and thereby enhance fire protection service levels across the city. Following graduation, graduates will be deployed to their respective crews and fire stations across the city.
Eight Communications recruits have also graduated from their nine-week recruit training program, with NFPA professional qualifications in Standard for Public Safety Telecommunications Personnel. The newest TFS emergency call-takers and dispatchers are assigned to their respective crews and have assumed the challenging and difficult task of answering and processing incoming emergency calls, dispatching TFS trucks and crews to emergencies and then working tirelessly behind the scenes of every emergency response, supporting responding firefighters and emergency incident commanders. These professionals make quick, high-stakes decisions that protect the public and first responders.
