Toronto Public Health (TPH) will hold a media event tomorrow to discuss the City of Toronto’s West Nile virus program. Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Christine Navarro will provide information on TPH West Nile virus surveillance and mosquito reduction activities, in addition to sharing tips on how to reduce the risk of West Nile virus infection.

Opening remarks will be made by Board of Health Chair Joe Cressy (Councillor for Ward 10 Spadina-Fort York). Local Councillor Gord Perks (Ward 4 Parkdale-High Park) will also attend.

Enter High Park off of Parkside Drive, via High Park Boulevard. Follow High Park Boulevard to the stop sign, take a left and follow the road to the first parking lot on Deer Pen Road. The road ends at the parking lot, near the zoo.

Note: Due to technical limitations of the location, a City media feed and amplification will not be available. Microphones and recording equipment can be placed directly on the podium.

Experts will be available for photo and interview opportunities regarding:
• facts on West Nile virus
• demonstration of adult mosquito trapping
• demonstration of mosquito larvae dipping

West Nile virus is a potentially serious illness that is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. Although the risk of becoming infected is low, protection against mosquito bites can further reduce being exposed to West Nile virus.
