The City of Toronto will hold a ceremony on Sunday to honour the addition of 10 fallen firefighters’ names to the Memorial Honour Roll. The service will include words of solace and the laying of wreaths by Councillor Jennifer McKelvie (Ward 25 Scarborough-Rouge Park) along with members of Toronto Fire Services and the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association.

Time: 11 a.m.
Location: Harbourfront Fire Station, 339 Queens Quay W.

Toronto firefighters with their families and friends gather annually for the ceremony of remembrance.

A total of 297 firefighters have died in the line of duty while protecting lives, property and the environment in Toronto since 1848. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of Ontario recognizes that many of the deaths of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty are the result of work-related cancers.

The following 10 names (with dates of death) will be added to the Memorial Honour Roll:
• District Chief Ken O’Halloran, died November 21, 2003
• Fire Inspector Robert Fryday, died January 12, 2007
• Captain Ron Milroy, died July 29, 2016
• Captain James Lewis Brown, died December 3, 2017
• Captain George Bellinger, died March 9, 2018
• District Chief Edward Batten, died October 16, 2018
• Platoon Chief Thomas Thompson, died January 1, 2018
• Captain James McLaughlin, died November 1, 2018
• Firefighter Scott Daly, died December 9, 2018
• Firefighter Blair Gibson, died January 30, 2019
