Toronto City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Tracey Cook as the City’s Deputy City Manager, Infrastructure and Development Services, following a comprehensive internal search. Cook will begin her new role on January 30, 2019 and will report to the City Manager.

“Tracey joins my senior leadership team after serving as Executive Director of Municipal Licensing and Standards at the City since 2012,” said City Manager Chris Murray. “In this complex and challenging role, she provided strategic leadership and achieved transformational business and cultural change by building high-performance teams and developing partnerships with stakeholders in community, business, agencies and other levels of government. As we start a new City Council term, it will be beneficial to have an experienced leader like Tracey helping to achieve Council’s priorities and deliver services and programs to the public.”

Prior to joining the City, Cook worked as a Vice-President at Securitas Security Services, where she led a business division comprised of more than 170 clients, 1,100 employees and over $30 million in revenue, and previously as Director, Canadian Field Security Operations at Coca-Cola Bottling Company, where she served as the first security professional for the Canadian business unit of Coca-Cola Enterprises. Before that, Cook worked for the Toronto Police Service. She ended her 18 years of service as a detective in the Fraud Squad, where she supervised a team of officers responsible for investigating criminal offences against vulnerable persons and seniors. Cook is the recipient of a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and a Toronto Police Service Chief of Police Award, and is near the completion of her MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University.

“I’ve known Tracey for many years and she is fiercely passionate and committed to the City of Toronto,” said Mayor John Tory. “Her ability to successfully resolve complicated issues as well as her experience working with other City divisions, agencies and external organizations will no doubt serve her well in her new role.”

“I feel honoured to have the opportunity to take on this new challenge working on behalf of the city I love,” said Cook. “It is a privilege to be charged with working to enhance the quality of life for Toronto’s residents and businesses by delivering essential services and enhancing the livability of its neighbourhoods. I can’t wait to get started.”
