The City reviewed its nighttime waste collection program, where collections occur between 9 p.m. and 6:45 a.m., to determine if a re-alignment of collection days would be beneficial for City customers and operations.

We requested feedback on current waste collection experiences, the impact of collection on nighttime activities on commercial main streets and preferences for alternative collection nights.

Potentially impacted businesses and residents participated in the public consultation by completing the survey or attending a virtual public meeting.

Survey

The City offered a survey for residents, property owners and businesses to share their thoughts on potential changes to the nighttime waste collection schedules.

Virtual public meetings

Two virtual public meetings were held on Monday, October 20, 2025.

In April 2025, City Council requested consideration of changing the night of waste collection for parts of the west end (Ossington Avenue/Queen Street West/Dundas Street West and College Street areas), to support the current and future operations of CaféTO and the overall nightlife experience on these commercial main streets.

Expanding on this request and as part of a wider operational review, the City is including all customers with waste currently collected at night as part of this consultation to determine if a re-alignment of collection days would be beneficial for City customers and operations.
