* * Roundtable on a Beautiful City *

Purpose
To advise the Mayor and City Council and to engage and partner with the community on policies, programs and activities that will result in a clean, vibrant and beautiful city.

Composition and Membership
The roundtable will be composed of up to 15 members including the Mayor and four other members of Council. The four members of Council will include one Councillor from each of the Works, Economic Development and Parks, and Planning and Transportation Committees and one Councillor selected from Council at-large. The remaining members will be community members representative of the tourism and hospitality sectors, residents associations, community and youth groups, the architectural community, landscape architecture, the development community, business improvement areas, business community, and other stakeholders as identified. The membership should reflect the diversity of Toronto's population.

Term
The roundtable will be established for the 2003-2006 term of Council and will conclude at the end of term.

Role and Procedures
The roundtable will advise the Mayor and Council on strategies and actions to implement a variety of beautiful city-related actions including:

  • improved cleanliness and ongoing maintenance in public and private space (clean streets initiatives, litter reduction, graffiti and postering abatement, other by-law enforcement issues; maintenance of streetscapes, parks and urban design components)
  • the planting and maintenance of trees in public and private spaces
  • urban design initiatives (the design of public and private spaces)
  • City planning initiatives including the Beautiful Places campaign (part of the Great City campaign of the Official Plan)
  • improving the attractiveness and ongoing maintenance of the city's public parks, ravines and open spaces (landscaping, parks design, public art).
