Doors Open Toronto Photography Contest: City in Focus 2011


Architecture inspires photography

The first-ever Doors Open Toronto Photography Contest: City in Focus 2011 was launched as part of a special focus on architecture and photography this past year.

Submitted photographs were taken at any official Doors Open Toronto building during the 2011 event. Thank you to all of you who entered the contest. We had 500 entries and congratulations to all the winners! Thank you to the City of Toronto Archives for donating copies of Toronto's Visual Legacy - Official City Photography from 1856 to the Present as prizes for the four winning entries.

We are pleased to announce the following winners and runners up and have posted their wining entries below. Categories

Photographs were judged in the following four thematic categories:

  • Best building exterior at Doors Open Toronto 2011
  • Best building interior at Doors Open Toronto 2011
  • Best architectural detail at Doors Open Toronto 2011
  • Best door at Doors Open Toronto 2011

Judges:

Thank you to our fantastic judges! Adam Thom is and architect and the co-owner of Agathom Inc. The Formerly building home to Agathom Inc. was part of the 2011 Doors Open Toronto roster.

Steve Russell is a photo-journalist and works for the Toronto Star, our presenting sponsor for Doors Open Toronto 2011.

Elisa Alby was working in City Clerk's Protocol Services with city photographers at the time of the judging. She has since taken another posting at the City.

The contest curator was Scott Norsworthy.
