Toronto is ready for you!

Toronto is the city of unlimited possibilities! That’s why Toronto is the chosen city for generations of immigrants who come here to live, work and raise families. It’s a city where more than 150 languages are spoken daily and where 50 per cent of residents are born outside of Canada. Above all, it’s a city where diversity is a sign of strength and success. Welcome!

Citizenship & Immigration Canada

The City of Toronto Immigration & Settlement Portal represents our goal to help new and future immigrants learn more about the services and solutions available in the city of Toronto.  If you have not yet come to Toronto, your first question will probably be:

“ How do I apply to come to Canada? ”

The federal government’s department of Citizenship & Immigration Canada will advise you that there are different categories under which you and your family can apply in order to legally enter Canada. You should visit their website for detailed information concerning entering Canada:

  • as a permanent resident (formerly known as a landed immigrant)
  • as a student
  • as a temporary worker who may require a work permit
  • as a long-term worker who must obtain a work permit (some countries refer to this as a green card)
  • under the requirements the new Canadian Experience Class (look under Important News)

You may simply wish to come to Toronto as a visitor to enjoy all of the great activities and events that this city has to offer. We welcome and encourage you and your family to visit our city often!

Foreign Credentials Referral Office

Are you wondering how to have your professional and academic training recognized here in Canada? Your training and educational documents, which we call your “credentials”, need to be evaluated by Canadian professional and regulatory associations.

The Foreign Credentials Referral Office offers internationally trained and educated individuals accurate information on the Canadian labour market and explains Canada’s credential assessment processes.

Fraudulent immigration companies and representatives

Please beware of individuals and companies that offer to assist you – for a fee – with your application. You do not require an immigration representative to legally apply to come to Canada. All of these services are offered free, through Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC). We strongly suggest that you read the warning posted on CIC’s website.
