Looking for St. James Town project?
"A Pinch of This: Recipes from Alexandra Park" is hot off the press and into the kitchen. This brand new book features recipes collected from a Toronto neighbourhood to showcase the rich diversity of its residents, their stories and favourite dishes that contribute to Alexandra Park's vitality. More than a book of recipes, it's a testament to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and the strong community values of its residents.
The book is part of Recipe for Community, a collaborative project with Alexandra Park tenants working alongside the Toronto Community Foundation, the City's Toronto Office of Partnerships and Toronto Community Housing. The Recipe for Community project brings together the four key "ingredients" of food, convening, youth engagement and neighbourhood beautification including planting a community garden, installing flower boxes and creating public artwork.
Food writer Marion Kane has tested and endorsed the recipes, including one of Mayor David Miller's favourites. Money raised from sales of the book will go to the Alexandra Park Green Space Collective to fund a community cooking program and gardens. Green Space Collective is a group of residents from Alexandra Park who bring people together to beautify the neighbourhood through various greening initiatives. The book is available for purchase for $5 by calling 416-678-3439 or emailing greenspacecollective@yahoo.ca.
