To report garbage that was not picked up, you can submit a service request online at:
https://www.toronto.ca/home/311-toronto-at-your-service/submit-a-service-request-or-feedback/
or call 311. Please note that you must report garbage not picked up within 1 business day of the scheduled collection day.  Customers who have submitted a service request for a missed pick-up should leave the bin at the curbside.  The investigation into why your items were not collected by Solid Waste Management Services will be addressed within 24 hours (Tuesday to Friday). Resident should be advised to leave the bin at the curb for the duration.

In order to receive garbage collection service:

  • Curbside day schedule, garbage must be placed on the curb on the correct collection day, no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day and no earlier than 8 pm the night before. Each container must be 0.5 metres apart (2 feet) with a clearance of 3.0 metres above the containers to permit automated collection.
  • Apartments above businesses (previously called RUAC) Curbside night schedule, garbage must be set out after 6 p.m. and before 9 p.m.
  • Winter set out, find a clearly visible and accessible area to put your bins out for collection. Put bins as close as possible to the street, without obstructing it. Do not place the bins behind or on snow banks or on the road as they will get in the way of snow plows clearing your street. If you wish, you may clear an area for the bins to be set out as indicated on the website.
  • Excess garbage can be left beside your Garbage Bin if you attach a City-issued overflow garbage bag tag to each bag (maximum weight is 20 kg (44 lbs) measuring approximately 66 centimetre
  • s by 90 centimetres. Residential garbage bag tags are available at Canadian Tire  stores in the City of Toronto or you can purchase them online. Solid Waste fees can be found on the City of Toronto website.
  • No recyclables/renovation waste/hazardous waste/grass/soil/sod or prohibited waste (see below) can be placed in regular garbage.
  • City-issued garbage bins must be used. Garbage materials should be bagged and placed in the garbage bin.*
  • Tie-downs/bungee cords must be removed when the bin is at the curbside awaiting collection.
  • Each bin/bag/item cannot weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs) or it will not be collected.
  • There is no limit as to the number of oversized items (bulky items, ie. furniture, appliances) that can be placed out for pickup
  • Lumber/wood - is considered construction/renovation waste and is not collected curbside. See requirements for disposing of lumber at Transfer Stations
  • Garbage put out in small shopping bags or open boxes/cartons will not be collected.

Giant Hogweed Disposal:

  • Place the plant material in a large heavy-duty plastic bag, and label the bag 'Giant Hogweed'. Dispose of it in regular garbage. This plant should not be composted or placed in yard waste or the green bin.

Garbage materials should be bagged and placed in the garbage bin - loose garbage creates litter when the bin is auto-lifted (up and over) into the truck and can easily be scattered all over the roadway. Broken glass and other hazardous items may create a safety hazard. Larger items placed in the garbage bin are not required to be bagged.

Detailed information about the residential waste collection can be found in Chapter 844 of the Municipal code.
