The City is improving the playground in S.A.D.R.A. Park. These improvements are part of an ongoing city-wide program to ensure playgrounds provide safe and accessible fun for many years to come!

Final Playground Design

The final playground design and layout was determined using feedback from the community. The new playground will be accessible and will include the following features:

  • A new all-ages play-structure with 3 slides
  • A new spider climbing net
  • A new swing set
  • A new teeter-totter
  • A car-motion toy
  • A rider-motion toy
  • A sit-down spinner toy

Online Survey

From May 8 to May 21, 2022, feedback on multiple playground design options was collected in an online survey. The survey was promoted through paid social media ads, the local Councillor’s office, on-site signage, and on this page. The survey received a total of 344 complete responses.

The design team will use this feedback to refine a final design. The final design will be available on this page in summer 2022.

Key Feedback Highlights
  • When asked to rank their playground design preference, respondents ranked Design B and Design C highest (38 per cent) followed by Design A (23 per cent)
  • Respondents shared that the four most important features to include in the new playground are:
    • the junior play structure for ages two to five (47 per cent)
    • the senior play structure for agrees five to 12 (42 per cent)
    • climbing structures (41 per cent)
    • toddler swings (32 per cent)
  • Respondents shared that the four least important playground features to include in the improved playground are:
    • stand-up spinner toys (44 per cent)
    • stand-alone toys (e.q. spring toys) (43 per cent)
    • play panels (36 per cent)
    • double slide (21 per cent)
  • If budget permits, the four features respondents would like more of in the improved playground are:
    • climbing structures (51 per cent)
    • toddler swings (26 per cent)
    • the junior play structure for ages two to five (25 per cent)
    • the senior play structure for ages five to 12 (25 per cent)
  • The preferred colour scheme for the new playground was bright colours, like yellow, orange and purple (53 per cent) over earthy colours, like green, brown and grey (33 per cent). No colour preference was noted by 14 per cent of respondents
  • The preferred type of ground cover for the new playground was wood chips (62 per cent), over sand (22 per cent) and rubber (22 per cent). No preference was noted by 8 per cent of respondents

All three designs are accessible, have the same amount of play features and cost the same amount.

Playground Design Option A

S.A.D.R.A. Park Playground is located at 56 Silverthorn Ave., at the north end of Cloverdale Road, in Etobicoke York.

The playground currently includes:

  • Two swing sets with:
    • Two swings for ages two to five
    • Two swings for ages six to 12
  • A see-saw
  • A combined junior and senior play structure
  • Climbing structure
  • Sandbox
  • Sand under all play areas

The playground will be redesigned using feedback from the community. The redesigned playground is proposed to include:

  • Playground equipment for ages two to 12
  • Additional seating
  • Engineered wood fibre playground surfacing
  • Accessible play equipment and an accessible pathway connecting to the playground area. This means that people of all abilities will be able to play at this playground.

Improvements will only be made in the general playground area. This will not include any new water or lighting features, or improvements to other areas of the park.
