A new splash pad is coming to Dr. Daniel Hill Park. The design will be shaped through community engagement and is proposed to include water play features, upgraded pathways and new shaded seating areas.

    Level of Engagement

    This project has been classified as a Consult project based on the International Association of Public Participation Spectrum. This means we collect and consider public feedback on proposed design options to inform the development of a final splash pad design.

    January 2026

    Online Survey

    From December 8 to January 11, an online survey collected feedback from 184 respondents on the splash pad design options and water play features. The survey was promoted through social media, on-site signage, the project mailing list, outreach to a nearby school, the local Councillor’s office and this page.

    The project team will use this feedback to develop the final design.

    Feedback Summary

    Overall, 82 per cent of respondents were satisfied with the splash pad design options, 11 per cent were neutral and seven per cent were dissatisfied.

    Respondents were asked which design option they liked best:

    • 56 per cent preferred Design Option B
    • 31 per cent preferred Design Option A
    • 11 per cent had no preference
    • two per cent did not know

    In Design Option B, the water play features respondents liked most are:

    • double-leaf sprayer (73 per cent)
    • twisting sprayer (59 per cent)
    • snail sprayer (41 per cent)

    In Design Option B, the water play features respondents liked least are:

    • single-stream directional jet (41 per cent)
    • none (32 per cent)
    • dual-stream directional jet (13 per cent)
    • snail sprayer (13 per cent)

    In Design Option A, the water play features respondents liked most are:

    • tropical leaf sprayer (53 per cent)
    • flower sprayer (44 per cent)
    • butterfly sprayer (44 per cent)

    In Design Option A, the water play features respondents liked least are:

    • single-stream directional jet (31 per cent)
    • tube sprayer (28 per cent)
    • none (21 per cent)

    51 respondents provided additional feedback on how to make the splash pad more welcoming and accessible to all community members. Common themes included:

    • adding more shaded areas (22 comments)
    • adding more seating (17 comments)
    • suggestions for specific water play features, such as a water dumping bucket (seven comments)
    • suggestions for supporting amenities, such as washrooms and towel hooks (five comments)

    In-Person Pop-Up Event

    On January 7, the project team held a pop-up event at Broadlands Community Recreation Centre from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to collect feedback on the splash pad design options and water play features. Approximately 10 community members participated in the event.

    Participants used dot stickers and sticky notes to share their preferences and comments. The project team will use this feedback to develop the final design.

    Feedback Summary

    When asked which splash pad design option they liked best, five participants preferred Design Option B and three preferred Design Option A. No participants shared their level of satisfaction with the design options.

    In Design Option B, the water play features participants liked most are:

    • double-leaf sprayer (five votes)
    • geyser sprayer (five votes)
    • twisting sprayer (five votes)

    In Design Option A, the water play features participants liked most are:

    • jet stream sprayer (four votes)
    • flower sprayer (three votes)
    • dual-stream directional jet (three votes)
    • tube sprayer (three votes)

    Nine participants provided additional feedback on how to make the splash pad more welcoming and accessible to all community members. Common themes included:

    • concerns about water play features, such as the potential for bullying with tube sprayers and issues with chipping paint (three comments)
    • a preference for Design Option B (two comments)

    Other suggestions included adding more shade, using soft or non-abrasive surfacing and incorporating more toddler-height water play features.

    Splash Pad Design Options

    The new splash pad will be located south of the existing playground.

    Two design options for the splash pad were presented to the community for feedback, which will inform the development of a final design.

    Both designs comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, include about the same number of water play features and cost about the same amount.
