The City is adding a new dual-use tennis court and pickleball courts at Muirlands Park. The design will be shaped through community engagement and will determine the number and layout of each proposed sports facility. Improvements may also include new seating, picnic tables and plantings.

The timeline is subject to change.

In spring/summer 2026, the City will present two to three layout design options for the tennis and pickleball courts and gather community feedback through an online survey and a pop-up event at or near the park. The feedback will be used to develop a preferred design.

Level of Engagement

This project has been classified as a Consult project based on the International Association of Public Participation Spectrum. We will obtain public feedback on the proposed layout and design options for the new tennis and pickleball courts.

In 2019, City Council adopted the Parks and Recreation Facilities Plan which identified that Ward 23 lacked access to multi-sport courts, including tennis and pickleball courts.  In 2023, the City also adopted the Pickleball Play in Toronto report, which included recommendations for the development of new pickleball courts.

Muirlands Park was identified as an ideal location for new tennis and pickleball courts to help address geographic access gaps in Ward 23 for the following reasons:

  • The park is of suitable size and has flat topography ideal for building sports courts
  • The park is already a local destination for sports and leisure, featuring a multipurpose sports field, a ball diamond and a playground.
  • The park is equipped with supporting infrastructure like accessible pathways, seating options and more.
  • The park is located close to a community centre, public library and multiple public schools, making it easily accessible for community members of all ages.
  • The addition of tennis and pickleball courts will help expand equitable access to multi-use sports facilities in the community.
