This project has been classified as a Consult project based on the International Association of Public Participation Spectrum. This means we collect and consider public feedback on a proposed design to inform the development of a final design for the fitness area.
From December 1 to January 8, an online survey collected feedback from 87 respondents on the proposed design and equipment options for the new fitness area.
The survey was promoted through social media, on-site signage, the project mailing list, outreach to nearby community organizations, the local Councillor’s office and this page.
The project team will use this feedback to develop the final design.
Overall, 71 per cent of respondents were satisfied with the proposed design for the fitness area, 14 per cent were neutral and 15 per cent were dissatisfied.
Respondents shared that the four most important types of equipment to include in the fitness area are:
25 respondents provided additional feedback on how to make the fitness area more welcoming and accessible to all community members. Common themes included:
Other comments outside the project scope included requests for more seating and features for children in the parkette.
On December 3, the project team held a pop-up event at Birchmount Community Centre from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. to collect feedback on the proposed design and equipment options for the new fitness area. Approximately 74 community members participated in the event. A staff member of the local Councillor’s office was in attendance.
