Some buildings have a mandate to provide rent-geared-to-income housing to households that are homeless or who have experienced chronic homelessness. This is called an alternative housing mandate and must be recognized by the City of Toronto as Service Manager. Alternative housing buildings provide all households who live in those buildings with rent-geared-to-income assistance.
Below is a list of community housing providers which have one or more alternative housing buildings in their portfolio. Households may make an application for a unit in one of these buildings directly with the housing provider or through a referral agency.
