The City of Toronto is inviting residents to learn more about planned improvements to municipal infrastructure on Danforth Avenue between Main Street and Victoria Park Avenue. Improvements are required to sections of the watermain, storm sewer and sanitary sewer along this stretch of Danforth Avenue. As the road will be excavated and road resurfacing will be required, this provides the City with a once in a 25-50 year opportunity to make upgrades to the road. The City is planning improvements that make the road safer for all road users including pedestrians, people driving, people using transit and people on bicycles.

Construction is expected to take place from fall 2025 to fall 2026. A notice will be circulated in advance with more information on what to expect during construction.

Public Information Meeting

The City of Toronto hosted a Virtual Public Information Meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 7 – 8:30 p.m., which included a presentation from City staff followed by a question and answer period.

The work will include storm and sanitary sewer replacement, watermain replacement, road resurfacing, as well as safety and greening upgrades.

The existing painted cycle track, painted curb extensions, and quick build curbs and posts will be upgraded to permanent complete street infrastructure.

After construction is complete, the road layout and operations will stay generally the same as they are now, with one vehicle travel lane in each direction and turning lanes at intersections.

Following consultation with the Danforth Village BIA, designs for turning, loading and parking have been improved. Five on-street parking spaces will be added, compared to today.

The design elements that will be implemented on Danforth Avenue between Main Street and Victoria Park Avenue are listed below.

  • TTC stops will be upgraded to integrated/raised platforms in areas where a bus can pull over without blocking a through lane
  • Raised cycle track/ramp at loading and on-street parking areas to facilitate boarding and assist in loading of goods
  • Raised pedestrian crossings on side streets at select intersections
  • Repaved cycle track with asphalt, permanent poured-in-place concrete curbs and updated pavement markings
  • Raised curb extension (some with green infrastructure)
  • Bio-retention areas – green infrastructure including plantings and water infiltration elements
  • Addition of commercial vehicle loading areas
  • Addition of five parking spaces
