2026-2027 Respiratory Season Dashboard Updates

At the end of each respiratory virus season, Toronto Public Health reviews this dashboard and makes revisions based on new data sources, changes to existing data sources, and changes to testing. The following updates have been made to the dashboard:

  • Respiratory-related ED visits by Toronto residents have been added to provide timelier awareness of respiratory illness activity, and includes historical comparison for context
  • COVID-19 cases are now available using laboratory testing data (similar to the influenza case indicator and aligned with provincial reporting) with corresponding updates to viral activity assessments
  • The percent positivity graph includes an option to view COVID-19, influenza, and RSV together, providing an overall snapshot of respiratory virus activity.
  • Historical comparison data has been updated for wastewater, COVID-19 and influenza, using more recent seasons of data.
  • The wastewater assessment approach has been updated to align with the viral activity levels used in National Wastewater Monitoring of Pathogens
  • Indicators have been re-organized to align with timeliness of data to signal increased respiratory activity, from leading (i.e., wastewater) to lagging (institutional outbreak severity)
  • ‘Learn more’ buttons next to each indicator includes updated content to support users with interpretation of data
