When a choice-based cycle closes, the top-ranked applicant for each unit will be contacted by the housing provider with a housing offer. You will have two business days to respond.

Refusing An Offer

If you do not respond or you refuse the offer, you will be removed from the Centralized Waiting List for Rent-Geared-to-Income Housing under the Single-Offer Rule.

Required Documents Upon Offer

Having your documents ready will help the process move faster. The housing provider will ask you to provide:

  • Status in Canada proof
    • Canadian citizens: Canadian birth certificate, Canadian Passport, Canadian Citizenship card
    • Permanent residents: Permanent Resident Card
    • Refugee status
  • Most recent Notice of Assessment (NOA) or Proof of Income (POI) statement
    • For each household member aged 16 or older
    • Full-time students must provide proof of enrollment
  • Current source of income
    • Employment income (employment letter, paystubs)
    • Financial assistance from a government agency (E.I. statements, benefit statements, ODSP, OW)
      • For any household members who receive OW or ODSP, in addition to the NOA or POI statement, a recent Statement of Assistance (or a copy of the proof of social assistance from the recipients’ MyBenefits account) benefit.
  • Any household that had or has arrears/debts to a social housing provider in the province of Ontario will need to provide proof that the arrears have been paid in full or a re-payment agreement is in place in good standing.

    After You Accept the Offer

Once you accept a housing offer:

    1. You will be scheduled to view the unit
    2. The housing provider will arrange a leasing appointment
    3. All household members 16 years and older must attend the lease signing
    4. You can then prepare to move into your new home
    5. Your new housing provider will share information on how to maintain your RGI housing.
