Programs fill up fast! On this page, you can find out how and when to register for recreation programs online, by phone or in person, and how to withdraw from or transfer activities.

Registration is open in all districts for:

A location’s district can be found on the community recreation centre listing.

Visit Online Registration and Booking for information on creating and managing your account online.

You can also manage your account by

  • calling Recreation Client Services
  • visiting a Client Services counter at a civic centre
  • talking to front desk staff at a community recreation centre

Not all community recreation centres have front desk staff.

Visit Online Registration and Booking for information on searching for and choosing activities.

Duplicate Registrations

Community Recreation activities are very popular. To give the greatest access to as many people as possible, clients who register in more than one activity occurring at the same time will be asked to choose which activity they would like to attend and will be withdrawn from the other activity at the same time except for activities that overlap with Care Programs (After School Recreation Care and CampTO). City of Toronto staff, however, cannot escort children to activities outside of the Care Program. Caregivers will need to sign their child out of the Care Program and take the child to the overlapping activity.

You can only register for members of your own immediate family and those who you’re responsible for under the law. Registration for more than one family is not allowed.

There are many ways to register for programs once registration opens.

Online

This is the fastest and easiest way to register. Registration opens at 7 a.m. on the registration start dates.

Visit Online Registration and Booking for information on registration, including paying with or without credit card.

By Phone

Call Client Services at 416-396-7378. The Client Services call centre is open for extended hours before and on registration start dates.

In-person

In-person registration is available on registration days only at select locations, from 7 a.m. until noon.

Non-Credit Card Payment Options

Customers wishing to pay by cash or debit may visit any community centre location before registration to add a credit to their account. Contact your local community centre for hours of operation.

Age Specifications

Registrants must reach the specified age of the program by the first day of class.

Partial Payments

If a program costs more than $100, payment can be made in two installments. 50 per cent must be paid at registration and the rest must be paid by the first day of the activity.

Prorating Program Fees

Program fees are prorated based on the number of classes remaining. For evaluated or instructional programs (e.g. swimming), prorated registrations will be allowed before the third class starts.

Private Lesson Program Fees

Private lessons are intended for all ages. Thus no discount is applied to private, semi-private and small group lessons, contacted partnerships or third-party programs.

Waitlist

During registration, if an activity is full, you can join the waiting list. If a spot opens up, staff will contact you by phone or email. You’ll have a short time to respond and accept or decline the spot before they move on to the next person on the list.

If you join a waitlist online, you’ll see how many people are already on the waiting list before you join. Once you join, you won’t know your number on the waiting list.

Joining a waiting list does not guarantee enrollment.

If you have any questions about the waitlist, contact the community centre or Client Services.

Registration Security

The registration system is thoroughly tested and uses encryption similar to e-commerce and banking transactions. Look for the padlock symbol at the top of the My Cart and My Account pages. This means the data is secure.

Transfer to Another Program

Transfer to another program/activity before the third class begins.

Transfer by:

  • Going to online registration and booking – available up to the day before the activity starts
  • Calling Client Services
  • Visiting a community centre/civic centre in person
  • Written request
    • email to pfrcustomerservice@toronto.ca or
    • fax to 416-392-1551 or
    • mail to
Customer Service Section, Registration and Permits,
Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street, West, 1st floor,
      Toronto, ON M5H 2N2.

Fees

Transfers requested before the start of the second class will not have an administration fee.

Transfers requested after the second class or later will have an administration fee:

  • $13.85 until December 31, 2025
  • $14.13 starting January 1, 2026

Administration fees are not charged for transfers done for activities at Free Centres or activities paid with Welcome Policy.

If the original activity fee is more than the new activity fee, you will receive a credit on your account. If the new activity fee is greater than the original activity fee, you will need to pay the difference

Withdrawals and Refunds

If you can’t go, let us know so the spot can be offered to someone else!

You can withdraw or request a refund up to the third class of a program. After-school Recreation Care has its own withdrawal and refund process.

Withdraw or get a refund by:

    • Going to online registration and booking – available up to the day before the activity starts
    • Calling customer service
    • Visiting a community centre or civic centre in person
    • Written request
      • email to pfrcustomerservice@toronto.ca or
      • fax to 416-392-1551 or
      • mail to
Customer Service Section, Registration and Permits,
Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street, West, 1st floor,
        Toronto, ON M5H 2N2

    Fees

All withdrawal/refund requests will have an administration fee per person, per activity:

    • $13.85 until December 31, 2025
    • $14.13 starting January 1, 2026

    Credit on Account

The refunded activity fee will be credited to your account. You can use the credit to pay for yourself or family members, but family members will not be able to pay using the credit. If you use a portion of your credit for another transaction, the remaining amount will be refunded.

Refunds to Credit Card or Other Payment Method

If you want to receive a refund instead of keeping a credit on account and you are unable to do so through Online Registration and Booking, call Client Services to request a refund.

If the credit card used for the original payment is saved on your account, the refund will go back to that card. If no credit card is saved, the refund will be issued by cheque and mailed to you.

Refunds to a credit card might not be processed automatically due to credit card security standards. In these cases, the Main Contact on the Account will receive instructions to complete the refund process.

Don’t want a refund? Call to let us know.

    Welcome Policy

Programs and Memberships that used Welcome Policy subsidy to pay for all or a portion of the fee will have the same amount returned to their subsidy.

Withdrawals and Refunds for Aquatic Leadership Activities offered by the Lifesaving Society

    If you withdraw:

    • more than 10 days before the start of the program,
      • an administration fee is charged
        • $13.85 until December 31, 2025
        • $14.13 starting January 1, 2026
      • remaining amount refunded
    • less than 10 days before the start of the program,
      • no administration fee is charged
      • 50 per cent refund

Refunds will not be provided for missed classes or programs where 100 per cent attendance and active participation are mandatory.

    Cancelled Classes

A program class may be cancelled due to severe weather events or power outages. To check the status of your program, visit Recreation Service Alerts for service disruptions, program cancellations and closure notices.

Programs may also be cancelled before the start date of the first class due to low registration.

Every effort will be made to add a make-up class. If an additional class cannot be provided or a program is cancelled due to low registration, a credit will be applied to participants’ accounts.

You do not need to be a Toronto resident to have an account.

    Additional Surcharge

Non-Toronto residents will pay an additional surcharge for each activity they’re enrolled in, including otherwise free activities:

    • $53.82 until December 31, 2025
    • $54.90 starting January 1, 2026

    Conditions and Restrictions

    Non-Toronto residents:

    • can register for a recreation activity 10 days after registration starts for that activity
    • cannot make reservations for aquatic fitness

Memberships, day passes and multi-visit passes can be purchased year-round. The additional surcharge applies to memberships and multi-visit passes only.

    Proof of Residency

To be considered a Toronto resident, you must live in Toronto or own a residential or business property in the City of Toronto.

You may be asked to prove your residency by presenting a current document with your address. Examples:

    • a utility bill
    • assessment notice
    • phone bill

If proof of residency is not provided, the account will be subject to non-Toronto resident conditions and restrictions.
