Park & Recreation Washrooms & Drinking Water

Use the following list of washrooms and sources of drinking water to plan your visit ahead of time.  A number of the City’s washroom buildings have been winterized and are open year round.

Staff begin opening spring and summer washrooms and drinking fountains in early spring, once there is no risk of frost damaging pipes. During the opening routine staff check for winter damage, inspect pipes and fixtures, make repairs and flush the pipes. The process takes approximately three weeks and does not begin until the risk of frost has passed. Some washroom buildings are more than fifty years old and need extra work.

Drinking water source opening takes approximately six weeks from initiation to completion. This is due to the large number and geographic spread of drinking water sources.

Hours of Operation

• From May to October, washrooms in parks are open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• From November to April, washrooms in parks are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Staff teams open and close many washrooms in a geographic area every day, so individual washrooms may open earlier according to where they land on the route.
• Check building hours for washrooms located in recreation centres.
• Portable toilets are also available across the city in a number of park locations.
