To make a request for some services, you may be required to share personal information. Your information is collected under the City of Toronto Act, 2006 and bylaw 878-2004.
What does this mean?
The City of Toronto Act provides the City with legislative power to provide certain services to respond to the needs of the residents of Toronto. In delivering some of the services, the City will need to collect and use certain personal information of residents (for example, a home address in order to send a garbage collection calendar to a resident).
Bylaw 878-2004 enacted the decisions agreed upon by Council during its meeting from Sep 28 to 30 and Oct 1 in 2004. It was during this meeting that Council approved the recommendations contained in Administration Committee Report 6, which gave rise to the 311 division.
This enables 311 to collect personal information for the purpose of processing service requests.
When personal information is required, we cannot request this information from you over social media, such as Twitter.
