A service request for a damaged or missing green bin can be submitted online at https://www.toronto.ca/311

  • The bin repair will take place within the next 5 business days. There will be two attempts to repair your bin. If your bin is not repaired on the first attempt, the crew will make a second attempt within 5 business days.
  • Please ensure that the bin is on private property (where available) but accessible and visible from the street for the repair.
  • If you have laneway collection, please place your bin at the front of your property.
  • Please do not submit another service request until Solid Waste Management staff have made 2 attempts to repair the bin.
  • You can continue to use your bin for collection or storage while awaiting the repair (place the bin at the curb for collection as usual, but return it to private property as stated above for the repair).
  • Contact 311 if your bin has not been repaired/replaced after the two attempts have been completed.
  • If you do not have "private property" to leave the bin out where it's visible and accessible for repair, please tell us where the bin is stored on the property in order for the contractor to access it.
  • You must place your bin at the curbside as usual to receive collection, then place it back on private property, as noted above, for repair
  • Repairs will be completed by a company under contract with the City
  • There is no fee for the repair of blue (recycling), garbage (grey) or organics (green) bins
  • Graffiti on a bin is considered as a damaged bin
  • Note:  In order to proceed with creating an online service request, ensure you have the serial # located on the front of the bin. (Examples of garbage bin serial #65G###### and recycle bin serial #35R###### or organics bin serial #26O######).  Place this number in your online service request to identify the damaged bin or provide to the customer service representative if calling 311.  The contractor will confirm the bin belongs to you before the bin may be replaced.
  • Missing green bin: while waiting to receive a replacement green bin, you can place materials in a clear plastic bag at curbside on collection day ensuring the bag does not weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs).

Disposal of Old Garbage, Recycling or Green bins

If you have no use for your old garbage cans (metal or plastic), blue/grey boxes or old-style green bins, they can be set out as an oversized item. Place a sign on the container indicating "For Garbage Pick Up" on garbage day, no tag is required.
