Notice: Animal shelters are open to the public by appointment only for emergencies, adoption, pet redemption, pet surrender and fostering. Please call the general inquiry line between 10:30 am - 6:30 pm to make an appointment.
Animal Services accepts both living and deceased pets. To schedule an appointment to surrender a pet, contact 311 so that you can be transferred to the appropriate shelter.
Animal Services does not provide a pick-up service for deceased pets. It is mandatory that all owners surrendering their animal to Toronto Animal Services provide proper identification stating their name and current address. If a person acting on behalf of the owner surrenders the animal, written documentation must be presented to Animal Services to verify their authority to act on behalf of the owner.
Additional information on surrendering a pet and fees that apply are available on the City of Toronto website.
If you have disposed of your dog or cat yourself and your pet was registered and licensed, please contact the licensing office to advise of the death of your pet.
