Information on current job postings with the City of Toronto is available on the City of Toronto website.

Summer Employment opportunities
The City posts information about summer jobs usually by the end of February, depending on when City divisions finalize their hiring needs. Not all opportunities are posted at the same time. Each City division considers their operational needs (which takes into account any budget pressures) in determining whether they will hire summer students. The Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division does the bulk of summer student hiring and manages their own hiring process.

Resumes or applications are to be submitted online to posted Job Opportunities only.

Who can apply?

  • you must be 16 years of age or older
  • you must be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant), or hold a valid work permit

The City does NOT accept unsolicited resumes for jobs or opportunities not posted.

How to Apply:

For more information, please visit the section on the City of Toronto website.

While all applications are welcome, only those applicants whose application is selected for consideration will be contacted.

Note: Due to the volume of resumes received, HR is unable to provide information regarding the status of specific competitions.

The hiring process:

  • After the closing date of an advertised position, the Strategic Recruitment representative and the hiring manager jointly screen the resumes received. This can take 2-4 weeks depending on the number of applicants and the number of positions.
  • After this initial screening applicants who meet the qualifications required are contacted and proceed to the next step in the hiring process, (i.e practical or written exam, interview, etc.)
  • If the application is received online, applicants receive an "on-screen" confirmation of resume receipt upon submission.
  • The City of Toronto is committed to fostering a positive and progressive workforce that is representative of the citizens we serve. We will provide equitable treatment and accommodation to ensure barrier-free employment. In accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the City of Toronto's Accommodation Policy, a request for accommodation will be accepted as part of the City's hiring process.
  • If you are invited to participate in an assessment process, kindly provide your accommodation needs in advance. Please be advised that you may be requested to provide medical/other documentation to Human Resources to ensure that appropriate accommodation is provided to you throughout the hiring process.
