You can submit a service request online at: http://www.toronto.ca/311/ for investigation into pedestrian signal timing issues, or call 311. If there is an immediate safety hazard please call 311 to ensure that the issue is given the highest priority for investigation.

A pedestrian signal displays the "walk" or "don't walk" display :

  • When the walk signal does not allow enough time to cross the street
  • Issues with the walk and countdown time
  • There is a long wait for the walk signal to appear
  • Signal push buttons are stuck or not working properly
  • Accessible pedestrian signals are too loud or too soft

Reason for 'Don't Walk' signal indication when the signal is green for the side street. This situation occurs when a vehicle has been detected on the side street and no pedestrian has pushed the button. This only can occur at locations where the City's Transportation Staff have installed a Semi-Actuated "Type 2" (SA2) intersection. This mode of operation is in place to reduce pollution caused by unnecessary idling of vehicles when pedestrians are not present.
