The City currently operates approximately 46 street sweepers. Street cleaning frequency after the initial spring clean-up:

  • Arterial Roads: twice a month
  • Collectors Roads: once a month
  • Local Roads: once every 2 months
  • City crews clean laneways once a year

Mechanical street sweeping may take place overnight in areas where there are numerous pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, vehicles and on-street parking during daylight hours. This type of maintenance is exempt from the City's Noise Bylaw (Section 2.1 B.).

The City uses the street sweepers on the expressways and major routes it is responsible for:

  • Don Valley Parkway
  • The Gardiner Expressway
  • Allen Road
  • Hwy 27
  • Black Creek Drive

The street sweeper on your street has been evaluated and rated for PM2.5 and PM10 performance. This means that it has a particle matter rating of as low as 2.5 microns that it emits into the air, which the city has deemed to be an acceptable level even during smog days.
